I've decided to build a spinning wheel from scratch. It's a project that's been in the back of my mind for years but I've never gotten around to. The stars finally aligned when I found out that one of neighbors is a spinner and I had a chance to speak with her for a while.
I have ordered some books but not wanting to wait I've already started building a wheel! I downloaded some free plans for a castle style wheel. (I'll give the address below) This will help to give me a feel for wheel building. For this first wheel I'm using recycled oak that was given to me a while back. I will take what I learn from this project and apply it to my next wheel which will be in maple. Here is a picture of the hub that I've just turned.
I've also begun to cut the sections to build the actual wheel. I will post more pictures as the project progresses. Free plans for this wheel are available at:
