Spinning Wheel Project

I've decided to build a spinning wheel from scratch. It's a project that's been in the back of my mind for years but I've never gotten around to. The stars finally aligned when I found out that one of neighbors is a spinner and I had a chance to speak with her for a while.

 I have ordered some books but not wanting to wait I've already started building a wheel! I downloaded some free plans for a castle style wheel. (I'll give the address below) This will help to give me a feel for wheel building. For this first wheel I'm using recycled oak that was given to me a while back. I will take what I learn from this project and apply it to my next wheel which will be in maple.  Here is a picture of the hub that I've just turned.

I've also begun to cut the sections to build the actual wheel. I will post more pictures as the project progresses.     Free plans for this wheel are available at:

New Video

I'm working on a new video - actually two. The video is 'Forging a Viking Knife'. Since it took longer to create than I originally thought I've broken it into two parts. I find that I get a better response and more people will watch if the videos are kept short.

Part one is already finished but I won't release it until both are complete. I'll be finishing with the recording first thing in the morning so if the editing goes smoothly I hope to post them to my You Tube Channel by tomorrow night.

The New, New Website is Up

The new, new website is finally up and running. If you are not reading this on the website (because this blog now appears on my website!) you can click on the following link to go there and check it out!  The New rickmayotte.com website . Almost Ready

The new, new webpage is almost finished and should take the place of the old rickmayotte.com within the next few days. I've been working on it for a while because I never really liked the setup or layout of the old, new webpage. I like the new pages much better. They're easier to get around, the layout is more intuitive and it includes this blog! I'll post an update when it goes live.

Having Your Blog Appear on Your Website

I'm back! As some of you may know I had a blog for a long time on my webpage but when I changed domains I lost all of my past posts. I was frustrated with the whole thing and couldn't find a way to have my blog appear on my own domain webpage, but recently I found a way to do just that.

 It turns out that it's super easy to have your blogger blog also appear on your website simply by adding a few lines of code to the html of your webpage. I want to give credit where it is due so here's a link to the Youtube video that I found that showed me how to do this. Just follow the link below.
